What it refuses. Gemini will not call emergency services. It will not complete payments or financial transactions. It will not relay Social Security numbers, financial information, passwords or health information. It cannot be used to sell anything. It only calls US numbers.

Who gets it. Why ChatGPT Still Cannot Make Phone Calls

At DevDay on September 29, OpenAI launched Dots: always-on agents inside ChatGPT, each with its own cloud computer, rolling out to Pro and Business Premium subscribers (not yet in the EEA, Switzerland or the UK). Even with Call for Me in the world, these are the calls that still land on most people's to-do lists.

The insurance call. "Is my MRI covered, and do I need prior authorization?" A 25 minute queue, a menu with seven branches, and questions about your member ID. Health information, so no Gemini, and no iPhone option at all.

The billing dispute. A charge appeared that should not have. Forty minutes, two transfers and a supervisor. Financial information, so out of bounds for the mainstream tools.

The specialist appointment on an iPhone. Call for Me could book it on a Pixel 11. On the iPhone in your pocket, Siri will dial it and you will wait.
